They can look similar on a shelf, but the words describe different things. Knowing the difference makes shopping for your nightly essentials simpler.

Silk is a fibre. Satin is a weave.

Silk is a natural protein fibre. Satin describes a weaving structure that creates a smooth, glossy surface. Satin can be made from silk, polyester or other fibres, so “satin” alone doesn't tell you the material.

What does “momme” mean?

Momme is a measure of silk fabric weight. It's useful for comparing fabrics, but it isn't the whole story: fibre composition, weave, construction and care all matter too. Check the specific product details when choosing your silk.

A lovely sheen is easy to spot. The composition label is where you'll find the real answer.
